Immortalized in Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” as the land of the ice and snow, Iceland comes to mind as a winter destination because you want to snowmobile on the glaciers and hunt for the Northern Lights.

Picture the ladies’ shoe department in Nordstrom on a busy Saturday afternoon. There’s a woman cooing, as she plucks pump after pump from the display rack, thrusting them into the face of the glummest-looking fellow in the world, her husband, who’s lolling on a leather settee, braiding peds.
After completing research for a trip and compiling my list of must-sees, I try to guess which one will disappoint. There’s always a clunker on the list, some place that doesn’t fulfill expectations.
